I’m very interested in helping local communities grow more of the food they eat, rather than relying on corporations to grow it for them and ship it from half a world away.  For me, this has included promoting permaculture, organic food, local farmers, community gardens, and private gardens. In Sedona, I created The Sedona Community Gardens Network, and Sedona Community Gardens Facebook Page. Last year, I helped Bruce Connolly, of Connolly’s Farmers Markets, get his community-minded market off the ground by creating a website for him, which now features weekly posts about new — mostly local and organically grown — products. Here’s a website I’ve been wanting to create for a long time. It showcases a divination game that some friends and I have spent years perfecting. What makes this particular guidance tool different from other age-old divination systems is that it marries four principles that have emerged and merged during our particular time period: it combines the wisdom of diverse spiritual traditions; it draws upon the life experience, knowledge, and intuition of individual players (rather than shamans, religious authorities or holy people); it evokes the power of group consciousness and prayer; and it encourages people to infuse the game with deeper meanings by creating their own game decks, rules and rituals. Lately, more and more of my time has been spent supporting NHNE’s efforts to understand, share, and apply the universal truths emerging in near-death experiences, which have become a major global phenomenon. Along with doing two presentations in Sedona called “How Near-Death Experiences Are Changing The World“, I also put up a website to support NHNE’s efforts to inform the public. That website is called NHNE NDE. NHNE NDE features a mailing list to keep those who are interested informed about upcoming meetings and events, a news page that tracks NDE-related news from around the world, several fantastic NDE resource pages, links to other NHNE NDE resources, handouts and other resources from my Sedona talks, a calendar of past, present, and future events, and more. Saturday evening August 20, 2011 the documentary, “Farmageddon”, was presented to a packed house at the Sedona Public Library. The movie, which was organized by Sandy Boyce of Sandy’s Produce, was followed by a panel discussion and a request for those who attended to sign a petition for a “Local Food Ordinance” for Sedona. The petition is located here. And here is what the petition says:

“We the People of the City of Sedona have the right to produce, process, sell, purchase and consume local foods, thus preserving family farms, and local food traditions.

“We have faith in our citizens ability to educate themselves and make informed decisions. We hold that federal and state regulations impede local food production and constitute a usurpation of our citizens right to foods of their choice.

“Producers or processors of local foods in the City of Sedona are exempt from licensure and inspection provided that the transaction is only between the producer or processor and a patron when the food is sold for home consumption.”

I just finished signing it and encourage those of you who live in Sedona to do likewise.

The newest member of my growing family of websites has been born: Sunfellow Fine Art. As I mention on my profile page, nature has been calling me and I’ve been spending more and more time attempting to capture “fine art images that quiet the mind, open the heart, and stir the soul”. This new website is dedicated to sharing those images with others who long for deeper connections. Come take a look. The image above — “Milky Way Over Cathedral Rock” — is the most popular image on the site so far, but more are on the way…

By now you have no doubt heard of Google+. Is it “the next big thing” many net watchers are saying it is? Is it really going to give Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn a run for their money?

I’m betting it is — and I’m putting my money where my mouth is by establishing a base camp on Google+ that I expect will eventually replace many of the other networks I am currently located on. Why? Aaron Saenz, a Senior Editor for The Singularity Hub, speaks for me when he writes:

“My personal journey in social media has me re-evaluating what all of us are doing on these networks anyway. Why are we here? I think the answer is: for every possible reason you can imagine. Business, pleasure, reading, writing, finding new friends, looking at photos…I mean it’s really about having an entire digital life inside an ever evolving digital ecosystem. Like any organism, I think social media needs to adapt or die. Google+ is doing that. It’s making itself as flexible as it can, as controllable as it can, and as easy as it can. My social network was compartmentalized, and Google+ lets me put all those compartments in one place. When I want to share with friends, I use my friends circle on Google+ (good-bye Facebook). When I want to network with business associates, I do that through a different circle (good-bye LinkedIn). When I want to share information openly with people who follow me, I just make my posts public (good-bye Twitter). I’m slowly migrating photos (good-bye Flickr and Facebook), and all my videos are ready to view when I want them (good to see YouTube’s only a click away)…”
